Context
This project is the result of a 15 week course about Human Centered Design (HCD), Branding, which both was executed in project groups, and an individual Product Design with the theme, a "rental service" for baby products.
Quality products in these categories are quite expensive. Some are bulky and many are used less often. Baby products in general, can only be used for a short period as the child is growing quickly. Instead of buying new things we imagine a future where these (and many other) products are more commonly shared, rented or treated as services (Product-as-a-Service).
Approach
The process moves from the big picture to the product in five steps.
It starts with mapping the existing landscape — products, brands, and services — to understand what's already there. From this map, the empty spaces emerge: gaps in the market worth exploring.
The branding phase then examines the existing POC brand and defines what a brand extension should carry over, leave behind, or newly create. In parallel, a business model is developed to establish the Product-as-a-Service system.
Insights from the human-centered design research are then integrated with the new brand, guided by its brand book.
Together, these steps form the framework in which the product takes shape — a product that fits the market gap, the brand, the business model, and, above all, its users.
