This project explores how urban logistics and public street use can be reimagined to support a sustainable mobility transition. The focus is on implementing keyless nighttime deliveries combined with a system of access-restricted residential streets, where only residents, emergency services, and authorized vehicles (e.g. delivery or maintenance) are allowed.
Context
Stockholm is actively converting streets into car-free zones. For residents and pedestrians this is a welcome change — quieter streets, more space, a more liveable city. But every street closed to vehicles is also a street closed to delivery trucks. As pedestrian zones multiply, the road capacity available for urban logistics shrinks, while demand for store deliveries continues to grow. The result: increasing congestion, slower supply chains, and a transition that risks stalling under its own contradictions.
Task
Design interventions that address urban mobility and suggest possibilities for sustainable urban mobility based on the design for sustainability transitions approach.
Scope
DfST focuses on how urban problems, such as mobility, energy, and logistics, are linked to both physical systems, including streets, vehicles, and energy, and human-social systems, including behaviors, norms, and regulations.
