The evidence on child bike seats is uncomfortable: poor head protection, harnesses that don't hold, and real injury risk even in low-speed falls. Designed for POC jr. — the rental service extending POC's safety standards to families — this front-mounted child seat closes those gaps by translating crash and airbag research into a product built around the child, not adapted from adult cycling gear.

Context

A "rental service" for baby products.
Quality products in these categories are quite expensive. Some are bulky and many are used less often. Baby products in general, can only be used for a short period as the child is growing quickly. Instead of buying new things we imagine a future where these (and many other) products are more commonly shared, rented or treated as services (Product-as-a-Service).

Task

The products are to be designed as part of a service offering (Product as a Service) in an emerging circular economy.

Scope

The main deliverables of this 15 week course are user studies, a brand platform, and a final design of a product for a specific brand.

Outcomes

Brand Extension

At the heart of the POC jr. extension lies a fundamental shift in perspective. A move from protecting the athlete to caring for the entire family. This evolution is not a departure from what POC stands for, but rather a natural and meaningful expansion of it.

Brand Book

The developed Brand Book is a guideline for POC´s brand extension. It contains heritage, values, business model and the design appearance for POC jr.´s products.

Human Centred Design

Market research, Observations, Store visits, In-depth Interviews and a Survey with 157 participants in 4 countries are used as HCD-Methods. Combined with a Co-Creation session the team delivered a detailed user segmentation with the main separation in "daily commuters" and "occasional users."
